at The Center, we offer comprehensive treatment of functional problems of
the foot and ankle, fitting and modification of orthotic inserts, and
podiatric sports medicine services.
Our
doctors and staff pride themselves in prompt and courteous treatment of
conditions ranging from minor toenail or cosmetic foot problems to major
reconstruction of deformities or correcting a previous failed surgery. Our goal
is to not only provide you quality foot care, but be as timely as
possible. We know your time is valuable and we will make every
attempt for you to avoid a lengthy wait. If an emergency arises
which will cause you an inconvenience, our staff will make every attempt
to contact you prior to arriving and will reschedule you for another time.
Both
our Manhattan and Bronx facilities provide
a comfortable and efficient setting to quickly and completely diagnose and
treat any type of foot problem. Welcome to our office and thank you for giving us the opportunity to care
for you and your family.
Understanding the
Anatomy of the Foot
The
foot consists of 26 bones, 120 ligaments, 33 joints and 20 separate
muscles which work together to control the movement of its individual
parts. The foot contains almost one quarter of the body's bones.
The
complex construction of the feet enables them to absorb close to 100 tons
of force per day. Our feet support our body weight and each day they
are exposed to grueling punishments in the form of poor fitting shoes,
sports injuries, occupational traumas or the stress of walking on hard
surfaces.
It
is no wonder that when our feet have been overworked or treated badly,
they are vulnerable to damage from external forces or from hereditary
tendencies.
About Our Services and
Facilities
Examination
At
your first visit, our podiatric assistant will interview you about your
medical history and your present health. One of our doctors will
then examine you to determine the nature of your ailment. Once the
doctor has diagnosed your problem, we will schedule you for the proper
treatment and care.
X-Rays
X-Rays
are an important tool for proper diagnosis and tracking of podiatric
problems. The Center has its own X-Ray facilities which consist of
the most advanced low dosage equipment. We take the utmost care not
to expose you to any unnecessary radiation and will order X-Rays only when
they are essential.
Physical
Therapy
During
the course of your care, the doctor may prescribe physical therapy.
The doctor will refer you to an appropriate specialist. The patient
is responsible for making the appointment and is free to see a therapist
of his/her own choosing.
