Bunion Treatment White Plains

Our foot doctors have performed over 4000 bunion corrections ranging from simple repairs to complex reconstructions including the most recent advancement in Bunion Treatment; the Osteotomy Sparing Mini-Tightrope procedure. There are over 100 different types of Bunion procedures and the doctors pride themselves on choosing the procedure that is appropriate for each specific bunion deformity. The Bunion is a complicated deformity and each bunion poses a unique challenge. The doctors have over 30 years of experience in correcting Bunion deformities. The doctors’ surgical procedures are directed toward improving function and improving the cosmetic appearance of the foot. We have a success rate of over 95% with most patients reporting having very little pain post surgically.

The surgery is performed in an outpatient ambulatory setting at either Beth Israel’s Phillips Ambulatory Care Center where the doctors are in the Department of Surgery or at the Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical Center where they are in the Orthopedics Department. Some minor procedures are performed in our New York City office.

Not all bunions require surgery and the doctors have had success in slowing the progress of some bunions with the use of custom made orthotics for dress and athletic footwear.

However, if your bunion is interfering with your ability to walk and perform normal activities or if you are having a difficult time wearing shoes comfortably, then you should consider having your bunions treated surgically.

Dr. Geldwert has published articles on the correction of bunions and has lectured on the various types of bunion corrections, including their success rate and complications.

Dr. Geldwert is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Dr. Lai is Board Certified in Foot Surgery. Both are Fellows of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. They are also involved in teaching the podiatric surgical residents at Beth Israel Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Geldwert has also served as the Director of a Foot Surgical Residency Program.
