Though often overlooked, sock choice can greatly affect your foot health. The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine explains that the type of hosiery worn by athletes can directly contribute to the development of foot pathologies like toenail fungus, hematoma, friction blisters, hyperkeratoses, bacterial and viral infections, capsulitis, bursitis, fat pad atrophy, bunions, contusions and more. We're still weeks away from the scientific beginning of winter, but in many areas it's already cold, or even snowy and icy. A week or so ago, we had a cold snap that my body was completely unprepared for. At night I felt so chilly that I went to bed, bundled up in layers of fleece and of course, warm socks for my icy feet. The next day I found out that I had paid for all that warmth--I had prickly heat ...

With so many people preparing for autumn marathons, I think it's a good time to take a look at how you can get your feet ready. Yes, your feet--not your diet, conditioning, or hydration schedules. Although some might think of summer as hiking season, I think fall is the perfect time, when it's still warm enough outside to avoid heavy winter coats, but just cool enough so that you're not pouring ...

My dog is having skin allergy problems. I caught her biting, chewing, and licking a few spots on her legs, making them bright red and angry. There were no signs of fleas, so I whisked her off to the vet, who said they'd been seeing nothing but itchy dogs lately. There's something in the air apparently, that has led to ...

When is a foot problem not a foot problem? When the symptoms indicate a disease rooted in another part of your body--like peripheral arterial disease.
Let's talk about the condition often called P.A.D.

There have been so many times in this blog when I have told you, "Look, it's time to give your feet a break from running. Do something else for a while that won't pound your feet as much. Try bicycling." And that is true--biking is a great way to get your workout in while also taking some of the pressure ...
